He is also one of the best film editors in Hong Kong. He edited Wong Kar-wai's ''Days of Being Wild'', contributing the very famous cameo appearance of Tony Leung in the last scene of movie, and ''Ashes of Time'', as well as Johnnie To's ''''.
He is widely regarded as the teacher of Wong Kar-wai by critics.
Tam is now associate professor of School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.
